ADOPTION DETAILS

If you see a dog or puppy on our website and would like to start the process of saving a rescued animal, please submit an application to get the ball rolling on a meet-and-greet!  The application is how we get to know you, so don't be afraid to tell us about yourself!  Make sure to click SUBMIT vs SAVE to ensure we receive your application.  Once submitted, you will get an email to confirm receipt.  Click on the icon below to access.

Each dog's page has lots of information about their personality and the kind of home they need.  You can also find the link to apply for them and instructions for submitting an application in their descriptions.  Due to the number of messages we receive and each of the dogs being unique in their needs, we do not accept "pre-approval" applications.  We are only able to process applications for dogs who are currently available.

Our adoption process usually takes about a week but may take more or less time depending on the schedules of our foster families and the number of applications we receive for any particular dog.  Please be patient.  Our organization is completely volunteer, and all of our volunteers work full time jobs during the day, have families, etc.

ALL potential adoptive families must have up-to-date veterinary records on all pets currently residing in the home. We believe for health and temperament reasons that it is in the best interest of the dog to be spayed or neutered.  We will not adopt a dog into a home if your current dog(s) are not spayed or neutered or if you have a history of not completing this type of surgery in a timely manner for your pets.  We will, however, work with you to provide resources and education to spay or neuter your dog.  Personal references will be contacted for applicants who are not current or previous pet owners.

For most of our dogs, we prefer adopters have a fenced yard.  But, we do take each adoption on a case by case basis and may make some exceptions.  We do not adopt out multiple dogs to the same home at the same time.  Especially pairs of puppies, due to the high risk of them developing Littermate Syndrome.

Our adoption fee for approved applications is $275 for any dog in our program.  If a puppy is younger than 4 months of age, the adoption fee will include the spay/neuter when they are of an appropriate age.  If they are 4 months are older, the dog will be altered before adoption.

Please note that we are currently only accepting applications for homes within approximately a 45 mile radius of Winston Salem.  A great way to check your proximity is to use googlemaps to see how far your address is from our local Pet Supermarket (located at 412 S. Stratford Rd, Winston-Salem 27103).

For any additional questions about dog availability or our adoption process, send us an email at steppingstonesrescue@gmail.com!  We will respond as quickly as we can.  Because we are all volunteers who work regular jobs, have families, etc, we do not have a public phone number available.  Email is the best way to communicate with us.

If at any time during the adopted dog's life you cannot fulfill your commitment, you will be required to return the dog to Stepping Stones Canine Rescue.

Applicants must be 21 years of age or older.

Stepping Stones Canine Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption to any applicant.
